Pizza Pie Crochet Blanket

Most kids I know like pizza, but my daughter LOVES pizza! Last year her and her brother were talking about what they wanted as their first cars. My daughter wanted a car that she could paint to look like a pepperoni pizza. That conversation started a barrage of pizza related gifts - bracelets, pillows, etc.

Earlier this year I decided to use up some of my rather large stash of yarn to surprise her with a pizza blanket. I didn't want to make her something that looked like a slice, I wanted to go big and make a whole pie. And believe me, this blanket is big!

My daughter's blanket is just under 4 feet wide. That picture to the left is her holding her pizza. For reference, she is a little over 5 feet tall. The pattern below is what I used to make it this size, but you could easily make it bigger or smaller.

Supplies

Vanna's Choice yarn in 4 colors. I used Mustard (9 skeins), Rust (4 skeins), Toffee (2 skeins) and Brick (1 skein).

The cheese and sauce part of the blanket is crocheted with 3 strands of yarn held together. I find it a lot easier when working with multiple strands to find the center pull of a skein. You could also wind your skein into a cake to get a center pull. This seems to prevent the yarn from rolling all over the place and creating a tangled mess.


Round 1: Using N/P 10.0mm hook with 2 strands of mustard and 1 strand of rust , ch. 2 and work 10 hdc into a magic ring. Join with a slip stitch to the top of your first hdc.

Round 2: Ch. 2, 2 hdc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of your first hdc - 20

Round 3: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 30

Round 4: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 2, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 40

Round 5: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 3, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 50

Round 6: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 4, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 60

Round 7: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 5, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 70

Round 8: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 6, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 80

Hopefully you are starting to see a pattern by now for increasing each round. Continue to increase each round following the pattern until you have a total of 28 rounds. Fasten off after the last round.


Crust

Join 2 strands of toffee to any stitch along the last round.

Round 29: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 27, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 290

Round 30: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 28, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join - 300

Round 31: Ch. 2, (hdc in the next 29, 2 hdc in the next), repeat around, join and fasten off - 310

Fold the crust up towards you and the front of your work. Using a tapestry needle and a long strand of rust, sew the edge of the crust to the base of the first round of the crust. I used one massively long strand of rust to sew the crust, but in retrospect, it would probably be easier to use shorter strands because it started to tangle the further along I sewed.

Pepperoni

With an H-hook and brick color yarn

Work 6 sc into magic ring, join to the first sc

Round 1: Ch. 1, 2 sc in each stitch around, join - 12

Round 2: Ch. 1, (sc in the next, 2 sc in the next) around, join - 18

Round 3: Ch. 1, (sc in the next 2, 2 sc in the next) around, join - 24

Round 4: Ch. 1, (sc in the next 3, 2 sc in the next) around, join - 30


After the last round, fasten off the yarn and leave a long tail for sewing to the blanket.

You can make as many pieces of pepperoni as desired. My blanket has 20 pieces.
